About SeliQt

Built to Make Selective Entry Preparation Accessible

Great tutoring shouldn't cost $100 an hour. We built SeliQt to bring diagnostic AI tutoring to every student who needs it.

Levelling the Playing Field

In Australia, selective entry and scholarship exam preparation has traditionally meant expensive private tutoring or attending coaching colleges. The cost can run to $5,000–$10,000 per year — a figure that puts genuine preparation out of reach for many families. The result is a system where access to selective schools correlates strongly with household income, not student potential.

SeliQt exists to change that. We use AI to deliver the same quality of individualised, adaptive feedback at a fraction of the cost. A subscription to SeliQt costs less per month than a single hour with a private tutor — and it's available every day of the year, at whatever time works for your child.

Unlike passive practice apps that simply mark answers right or wrong, SeliQt actually reads the student's working-out and tells them exactly where their reasoning went wrong. That's the same thing a skilled tutor does — identifying the precise moment in the problem-solving process where a student's thinking diverged from the correct path. We call this deviation point analysis, and it's the core of what makes SeliQt genuinely educational rather than just a drill machine.

Four Steps from Question to Understanding

Most practice apps test what a student knows. SeliQt is designed to develop what they can do. Here's how the system works:

  1. Adaptive Question Generation

Questions are generated at the student's current working year level, which may differ from their school year level. SeliQt tracks performance across topic areas — number, algebra, geometry, measurement, statistics, and general ability (spatial reasoning, pattern recognition, and logical deduction) — and adjusts difficulty independently for each. A student who is strong in arithmetic but weak in geometry receives a different mix from a student with the opposite profile.

  2. Handwriting Recognition

Students write their solution on a tablet canvas, just as they would in an actual exam. The AI reads handwriting and working-out steps using multimodal vision — it doesn't just check the final answer, it reads the entire process. This matters enormously for exam prep: showing working is often worth marks in its own right, and it's the only way to understand where a student's thinking broke down.

  3. Deviation Point Analysis

Rather than simply marking a response right or wrong, SeliQt identifies the specific step where a student's reasoning diverged from the correct path. Did they set up the equation correctly but make an arithmetic slip? Did they misread the problem? Did they use the right method but apply it to the wrong quantity? Each error requires a different remedial response, and SeliQt provides feedback targeted at the actual mistake — not a generic explanation of the correct answer.

  4. Mastery Tier Progression

Every topic is tracked across three tiers: Foundation, Growth, and Mastery. Promotion requires sustained performance — 80% accuracy over at least five questions — so students can't advance by a lucky streak. Demotion triggers when accuracy falls below 40% over five questions. This rolling window system ensures the difficulty level always reflects current ability, not historical performance.

Year 4 to Year 12

SeliQt is designed for the full range of Australian selective entry and academic competition preparation, from early primary through to senior secondary.

Years 4–6

Foundation Building

Building the core number sense, algebraic thinking, and spatial reasoning that underpin selective entry and scholarship exams. SeliQt identifies gaps early — before they become entrenched habits — and builds the mathematical confidence students need before the pressure of exam year.

Years 7–9

Targeted Exam Preparation

Focused ACER and Edutest preparation for students applying for selective entry high schools and SEAL/HAST programs. Questions are aligned to the content and format of these exams, and adaptive difficulty ensures students are always working at the right level of challenge — not too easy, not too discouraging.

Years 10–12

Competition and Extension Maths

For students preparing for academic competitions (AMC, IMAS, ICAS), extension mathematics programs, or who want to deepen their understanding beyond the standard curriculum. SeliQt's Mastery tier questions are genuinely challenging and develop the non-routine problem-solving skills that competitions demand.

Not Just Another Practice App

✍️

Handwriting, Not Multiple Choice

Real exams require students to show their working. SeliQt's canvas-based interface trains the habits that matter — clear working, systematic layout, and showing every step — from day one of practice.

🎯

Deviation Point Analysis

SeliQt doesn't just mark answers right or wrong. It identifies the precise step in the working where reasoning broke down, giving targeted feedback that changes how a student approaches similar problems in future.

🇦🇺

Australian Exam Alignment

Questions are explicitly designed around the content and formats of ACER, Edutest, AMC, and ICAS. This isn't a generic maths app with Australian branding — it's built specifically for the exams your child is sitting.

📈

Real-Time Adaptive Difficulty

Difficulty adjusts continuously based on rolling performance windows, independently for each topic area. Students are always working at the right level — challenged enough to grow, not so overwhelmed they disengage.
